Two robotics and AI roles put mobility and bilingual ability at the center
New listings from Mujin and Money Forward show how location, sponsorship, language, and organizational scope can outweigh a job title when judging access to Japan's technology market.
Developments
Two newly dated technology listings illustrate why international candidates should look beyond the words “global” or “AI.” One role requires applicants to be established in Japan already; the other supports an overseas move but sets a demanding bilingual and leadership bar.
1. Mujin’s embedded QA opening is bilingual but restricted to residents
Mujin’s Tokyo quality-assurance role covers the hardware and software sides of embedded robotic-control products. The listing puts the annual range at ¥6–8 million and asks for business-level Japanese and English, experience with embedded-device manufacturing, and the ability to lead testing, failure investigations, corrective action and audits. Despite Mujin’s international profile, this particular vacancy accepts applications only from people already living in Japan. (View the listing)
2. Money Forward opens an AI productivity leadership role to overseas applicants
Money Forward’s CTO Office is seeking an engineering manager to lead developer-productivity and AI initiatives across teams. The ¥9–18 million role accepts overseas applications and advertises visa and relocation support, but it requires business-level Japanese and English alongside senior experience in engineering management, internal platforms or developer tooling. It begins without direct reports and is expected to grow toward a deputy-director position, making organizational influence as important as hands-on technical judgment. (View the listing)
What candidates should take away
International access is not a single checkbox. Residence status, sponsorship, bilingual meeting ability, compensation, seniority and the kind of influence expected across an organization can create very different application gates, even within globally oriented technology companies. Treat both listings as time-sensitive market signals and verify every condition with the employer before making relocation or career decisions.
